What is Anubis BJJ?

Anubis BJJ is Cairo’s premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club.  We are affiliated with Jiu Jitsu Black Belt World Champion Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu under the Fight Sports banner.

We welcome all Jiu Jitsu practitioners from all teams, regardless of affiliation.  Our team is passionately dedicated to the study and practice of the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and our members compete and succeed in competition around the world.

We also have a program for beginners who are completely new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  Lessons and (coming soon) equipment are available at the gym.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo groundfighting (newaza) techniques in the early 1900s, and has since developed into its own sport, particularly through development in Brazil and recently the United States.  Currently, it is a type of submission wrestling that emphasizes control and leverage over strength and size.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu allows you to fight from all positions in order to attain a superior position or gain a submission hold, like a joint lock or a choke.

Although Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches practitioners how to attain a superior position for striking, when we practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we do not strike one another; instead, we use wrestling and grappling techniques as well as submission holds.  However, we do train at full speed and full resistance every session.

What is the Fight Sports Network?

From the Fight Sports Webpage:

“Fight Sports was founded in March 2003 by Roberto Cyborg Abreu in the city of Campo Grande-MS, Brazil. The team was created with the intention to unite its students as a family, and have the mat as their second home.

“Back than, Cyborg was still a purple belt. With lots of hard work and passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Martial Arts, Fight Sports from the beginning had a massive growth and the TEAM didn’t take long to shine! On the 12/20/2004, Master CYBORG was graduated to Black Belt, by the hands of his Master Francisco “TOCO” Albuquerque, at Nova Geracao Academy in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. In 2007 Fight Sports was already the best school in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, conquering many state championships and even National tornaments. That was it, Brazil was already too small for such a great Team. In the year of 2007 Roberto moved to Miami Florida, and opened Fight Sports Miami. Just like every other challenge in life, it wasn’t easy to start everything from scratch again, but it was worth it.

“Nowadays, Fight Sports has became a Internationally recognized school, having over 16 affiliate schools around the globe. Cyborg has made numerous National and International champions, like Brazilian National, South American, Pan-American and World champions through the years. Today we proud ourselves to have the title of the best team in the world!”
